Henderson State stranded 12 bases runners as Arkansas-Fort Smith beat the Reddies 3-2 at Clyde Berry Field in Arkadelphia on Saturday night.
The Reddies scored in the first-inning as
Hunter Mayall led off the frame with a walk and advanced to second on a
Jordan Taylor single.
With two-outs, both Mayall and Taylor would advance on a catcher's interference which allowed
AJ Kruzel to reach.
Alan Hall then walked with the bases loaded to score Mayall.
UAFS, took a 2-1 lead in the fifth with the help of a pair of walks and a RBI single by Josh Vanderpool.
Henderson would threaten in the bottom half of the inning as
Joseph Gary and
AJ Kruzel both singled. Both runners, however, were stranded as UAFS pitcher
Clayton Whelchel struck out the next two Reddie batters to get out of the inning.
The Reddies would tie the score in the sixth-inning as
Alex Morgan led off with a single up the middle and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Matt Evans.
Mayall would then step to the plate and take Jake Tolbert's 2-1 pitch back up the middle for a base hit to score Morgan.
The Lions would regain the lead in the seventh getting a two-out single by Vanderpool followed by a RBI double by Kasey Cooper to make the score 3-2.
The Reddies finished with eight hits with
Alex Morgan leading the way with two safeties.
Henderson State and UAFS play again on Sunday with the first pitch at Clyde Berry Field set for Noon.
