The University of Arkansas-Fort Smith banged out 16 hits and beat Henderson State 12-6, Sunday at Clyde Berry Field in Arkadelphia, Ark.
The Reddies, 3-7 on the season, had several players making their first start of the season including four freshmen in the lineup.
UAFS, 7-2 this year, had three players collect three hits including Kasey Cooper who had a home run and Josh Vanderpool who had two runs batted in.
Henderson totaled nine hits in the game with
Tadarious Hawkins having two singles to lead the way. AJ Kuzel added a double and three RBI, while
Hunter Mayall also had a run-scoring single.
UAFS worked five pitchers with Zach Akins going three innings to pick up the win.
Zach Eschberger pitched 5 1/3 innings and gave up seven runs on 10 hits to get tabbed with the loss.
Henderson State will begin Great American Conference play next weekend when the Reddies travel to Searcy to play Harding in a three-game series beginning Friday at 2 p.m.
