Henderson State could not overcome the hot shooting of Harding as the Bisons beat the Reddies 74-58, Saturday in the Duke Wells Center.
Harding shot 53 percent in the first half and made 10-of-17 3-point field goals as the Bisons went on a 23-0 run over a 10-minute stretch in which the Reddies missed 15 consecutive shots.
Jacob Gibson scored 17 points in the game's first five minutes, including four 3-pointers to help Harding build a 47-20 at halftime. Gibson scored 23 points in the first half, hitting 6-of-8 3-pointers.
After shooting just 24 percent in the first half, the Reddies hit on 14-of-30 shots in the second half for 47 percent shooting.
Henderson made a push in the second half and pulled as close as 62-50 at the 5:29 mark, but the 27 point halftime deficit was too much to overcome. Henderson would outscore the Bisons in the half 38 to 27 in the half.
Harding, 16-9 overall and 14-6 in the Great American Conference, made 16 3-pointers in the game and only nine 2-point field goals. The Bisons shot 55 percent from 3-point range.
Gibson led the Bisons with 31 points.
Henderson State made 10 3-point field goals with
Zydrunas Jurgutis having three long range jumpers. Jurgutis was the Reddie to score in double-figures with 11.
Ben Marello and
Chandler Walton came off the bench to score 7 points each, while
Aaron Cooper,
Tavian Pomlee,
Matt Panaggio and
Kaylon Tappin scored 6 points.
Henderson will next play host to Southwestern Oklahoma on Thursday with the opening tipoff set for 7:30 p.m. at the Duke Wells Center.
