A career night from senior
Victoria Stewart helped fuel Henderson State to a 87-76 victory over Southwestern Oklahoma in Great American Conference play on Saturday night at the Duke Wells Center.
Stewart, a Philadelphia, Miss. native achieved a new career high in points scored as she poured in 28 points including 23 in the second half on 9-of-15 shooting from the field.
She also knocked down 8-of-12 free throws, as the Reddies(13-14, 12-9 GAC) finished the contest knocking down 21-of-32 attempts from the charity stripe for 66 percent.
After trailing 44-39 at the break, HSU would outscore SWOSU(17-10, 13-8 GAC) 48-32 in the second half, including a 28-15 fourth quarter difference.
As a team, the Reddies were 31-of-69 from the field to finish the game shooting 45 percent, while SWOSU was 30-of-68 for 44 percent.
HSU forced 18 miscues from the Lady Bulldogs, and scored 17 points off those turnovers while also dishing out 12 team assists and limiting SWOSU to just three.
HSU also out-rebounded SWOSU 44-40 on the night, an impressive feat as the Lady Bulldogs came into the contest leading the league in team rebounds per contest at 48.9.
The Reddies also received a strong performance from senior
Dulincia Keener, as she contributed her 12
th double-double of the season with 25 points and 12 boards.
Also scoring in double-figures for Henderson State was
Moe Bedford, as the junior pitched in 16 points and pulled down five boards.
Lexis Weber also had a strong game, scoring six points, pulling down nine boards and dishing out three assists.
Leading the way for SWOSU was Jennifer Williams who scored 19 points, while Morgan Vogt had 18.
With the win Henderson State can finish no lower than fifth place in the conference standings, locking up at least a #5 seed at the GAC Tournament held March 3-6 in Bartlesville, Okla.
HSU returns to action for its final regular season game with a matchup against Northwestern Oklahoma at the Duke Wells Center, with tipoff set for 1 p.m.
It will be Senior Day, as both Stewart and Keener will be recognized for their efforts as Reddies immediately following the matchup with NWOSU and before the men's game.
