Henderson's final game of the Houston Astros Winter Invitation was a pitcher's dual as Tarleton State beat the Reddies 1-0 in 10 innings.
Henderson's
Zach Eschberger and Tarleton's Trevor Renfo both had pin-point control keeping hitters off-balance.
Renfro would exit after six innings allowing four hits while striking out 12 Henderson batters.
Eschberger pitched 6 2/3 innings and would leave after throwing 100 pitches. The freshman from Bullard, Texas allowed three hits and struck out one Texan batter. Â
The Reddies, 2-4 on the year, were hitless through four innings before
AJ Kruzel broke up Renfro's bid for a no-hitter with a single to right field.
Alan Hall would later single in the inning, but Henderson was unable to plate a run.
Tarleton, 3-3, would threaten in the bottom half off the inning as the Texans would get a pair of base runners as the Reddies committed back-to-back errors with two outs. However, Eschberger got out of the inning forcing Elijah Christenson to fly out to short to end the frame.
In the Reddie sixth,
Jordan Taylor would blast a one-out double to the left-center field power alley to give Henderson a golden opportunity to score.
Hayden Lessenberry would follow with a single to left field to put runners on the corners.
But Renfro would work out of the jam as he picked off Lessenberry and was able to get
Tadarious Hawkins to ground out to first to end the inning.
In the bottom half of the ninth, Tarleton pinch-hitter Landon Thompson would drive a one-out single to right field to chase Reddie relief pitcher
Blake Patterson.
The freshman from Benton, Ark., retired five straight batters including striking out the side in the eighth before giving up the single to Thompson in the ninth.
Nick Vanthillo entered and retired both batters he faced to force the game into extra-innings.
In the extra-frame, Hunter Seales would reach on a one-out walk and advance to second on a wild pitch by Vanthillo.
With two-outs, Jake Hasbrouck would lace a single down the left field line to score Seales and end the game.
Calloway Kirkpatrick would relieve Renfro and finish the game to get the win.
Henderson would finish the game with five hits and leave seven runners stranded.
Henderson returns home Thursday to host the HSU Invitational. The Reddies will open with Northwest Missouri with the pitch set for 6 p.m.
