Reddies Fall Short In Extra Innings, Lose 2-1 To SOSU

For the third straight weekend, Henderson State opened its Great American Conference series with an extra-inning affair as Southeastern Oklahoma beat the Reddies 2-1, Friday in Arkadelphia, Ark.

Henderson got solid pitching performances from starter Luke Tebbetts and reliever Blake Patterson, but the Reddie offense could not put together enough hits to assist their hurlers.

Tebbetts pitched 7 innings, surrendering five hits while allowing one run and striking out six batters in another no decision.

Patterson pitched three innings and struck out four batters before allowing a hit and a run in the 10th.

Southeastern, 8-11 and 3-4 in the GAC, scored its first run in the second on a Logan Terwilliger single that scored Corban Taylor.

The Reddies would threaten in the fourth-inning as Jordan Taylor led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a Joseph Gary single. Henderson, however, failed to score as SOSU pitcher Dylan Linke got some solid play from his defense to get out of the inning.

Henderson would tie the game at 1-1 in the seventh as Alex Morgan reached on an error with two-outs, followed by a single my Matt Evans that would advance Morgan to third.

Alan Hall singled home Morgan and Evans would attempt to score from first as the ball bounced away from right-fielder Brandon Grimsley. Grimsley was able to recover and get the ball to Kaleb Thomas who gunned down Evans at the plate.

Henderson had its chance to win in the ninth as AJ Kruzel led off with a double down the left field line. Hayden Lessenberry put down a bunt on the third base side, but Kruzel was unable to advance while Lessenberry was safe with a single.

After a failed sacrifice bunt attempt by the Reddies, relief pitcher Brady Colbert struck out the next two Henderson batters.

SOSU would score its run with two outs in the 10th as Kaleb Thomas hit an infield single that scored Dylan Helms from second with the game winner.

The two teams will finish the series with a double-header at Clyde Berry Field on Saturday beginning at Noon.
