Reddies Take Finale of Series From Southeastern 5-2

Henderson State avoided a sweep by Southeastern Oklahoma as the Reddies beat the Savage Storm 5-2 on Saturday at Clyde Berry Field in Arkadelphia, Ark.

The Reddies, 9-11 overall and 6-3 in the Great American Conference, lost game one on Saturday as the two teams went into extra-innings for the second time with SOSU winning 4-2 in 11 innings.

In the final game of the three-game set, SOSU took a 2-0 lead scoring a run in both the first and second innings before Henderson tied the score at 2-2 in the bottom of the second.

Matt Evans got things started with a single up the middle and would later advance to second on an errant throw by pitcher Mike Wade on a pickoff attempt. Evans would score on a bunt single by Alan Hall with Hall later scoring on a double by Hunter Mayall.

Henderson added two more runs in the fourth-inning as the Reddies put together three hits in the frame. Lessenberry and Evans both singled to begin the inning. Turner Sparks laid down a bunt that was misplayed by SOSU which allowed Lessenberry to score. Evans scored when Mayall singled to left field to make the score 4-2.

Another Reddie run would come across in the fifth as Tadarious Hawkins singled and scored when Evans grounded out to short.

Zach Eschbreger picked up the complete game win to improve to 3-2 on the year. Eschberger allowed seven hits and struck out five batters.

Henderson totaled 10 hits in the game with Mayall going 3-for-3, while Evans was 2-for-3.

The story of game one was missed opportunities for the Reddies as Henderson left 15 runners on base including the bases loaded three times.

Southeastern would score an unearned run in the first-inning and plate another run in the fifth to take a 2-0 lead.

The Reddies would score their first run when Alex Morgan had a sacrifice fly to score Alan Hall who singled earlier in the inning.

In the Henderson seventh, the Reddies would load the bases as Jordan Taylor doubled with Lessenberry being hit by a pitch and Kruzel reaching on a walk. Hall would just miss hitting a grand slam as his ball tailed just foul down the right field line. Hall would then be retired when he flew out to third to end the inning.

Henderson tied the score in the ninth as Joseph Gary led off with a double and pinch runner Byrious Hughes scored on a Taylor single. The Reddies would have runners on first and second with one out, but unable to score.

SOSU would score two runs in the 11th as the Storm put together three hits in the frame.

Henderson had 11 hits in the game with Taylor going 4-for-5 and Hawkins 2-for-5.

The Reddies will next take on Ouachita Baptist in a non-conference game on Tuesday at Rab Rodgers Field with the first pitch set for 2 p.m.
