Luke Tebbetts recorded a complete-game victory as Henderson State beat Southeastern Oklahoma 5-0, Friday in Great American Conference baseball action in Weatherford, Okla.
Tebbetts threw 123 pitches, striking out three batters, and improved to 3-2 on the season.
Henderson State, 16-17 overall and 11-8 in the GAC, got on the board early as
Jordan Taylor hit a one-out triple to right-centerfield and later scored when
Tadarious Hawkins singled to left field to put the Reddies on top 1-0 in the opening inning.
In the Henderson third,
Frank Chiolino collected his first extra-base hit of the season when he doubled down the leftfield line to lead off the frame.
Taylor traded places with Chiolino two batters later with a double of his own to increase the Henderson lead to 2-0.
With Tebbetts cruising through the Bulldog lineup, the Reddies provided the junior from Winnsboro, Texas some insurance runs in the sixth-inning.
Hawkins led off the inning with his first home run of the season when he cleared the right field fence.
With one out and
Joseph Gary on first after being hit by a pitch,
Luke McGuire belted a two-run homer to right field, the first of his collegiate career.
SWOSU, 18-11 and 10-6 in the GAC, did not pose a big threat until the bottom of the ninth when the Bulldogs loaded the bases on a pair of walks and a hit batter. Tebbetts, however was able to record the final out when Haden Houska flew out to rightfield to end the game. Â
The Reddies totaled nine hits in the contes with Taylor going 2-for-5 with a double and a triple.
Both Hawkins and McGuire were 2-for-4 with both having home runs to lead the Henderson offense.
The two teams will play a double-header on Saturday with the first pitch set for Noon in Weatherford, Okla.
