Reddies Take Two from SWOSU in Friday Softball Double-Header

Henderson State put together an impressive double-header sweep of Southwestern Oklahoma in Great American Conference softball action on Friday at Dee White Field.

The Reddies(20-20, 11-17 GAC) defeated SWOSU by scores of 2-1 and 8-0, respectively.

In the first contest, HSU got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning when Ashlyn White blasted a single straight up the middle which allowed Courtney Warren to score for the only run of the game up until the seventh inning.

After pitching six straight scoreless innings, Michelle Sorensen surrendered the Bulldogs' only run in the top of the seventh when Ashley Jones homered to right-center field to tie the game.

However, HSU responded in the bottom of the seventh with a home run of its own when White smacked a solo shot over the left-field wall for a dramatic walk-off finish, giving HSU the 2-1 victory.

Sorensen would pick up the win from the circle to improve to 12-10 on the year, while SWOSU's Taylor Eaves fell to 4-7 with the loss.

The Reddies cranked out six hits in the first game, while limiting SWOSU to just two and also forcing one error.

HSU received hits from Warren, White, Keirsten Seahorn, Morgan South, and Shayla Wright in the contest, as White finished with a team-high two RBI.

Henderson State poured it on in the second game, finishing in six innings after run-ruling the Bulldogs.

The Reddies got things rolling in the first inning with one run when Alexia Lopez singled to left field, scoring Caroline Cullins from third base.

HSU would tack on two more runs in the bottom of the second, as a Wright single to center field plated Seahorn and Ashleigh Erb, giving Wright two RBI for the contest.

The third inning was where HSU did most of its damage, scoring three runs to give the Reddies a 6-0 advantage heading into the fourth inning.

White got things started for HSU, belting out another solo home run to left field, which was immediately followed up by an Olivia Trapp double to right field that advanced Lopez to third base.

Lopez would then reach home on an error by the SWOSU right fielder on the play.

Trapp then reached home plate on an Erb single to center field to round out the scoring for HSU in the inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, HSU added one more run when Seahorn darted home on a SWOSU passed ball with the bases loaded to send HSU up 7-0.

Another Trapp hit allowed Alexis Morton to score for the game's final run in the bottom of the sixth inning after SWOSU's third baseman could not execute a ground-out throw to first base, as Morton advanced home on the error for the victory.

Madison Calvert went the distance for HSU, pitching a complete game and giving up no runs to improve to 7-8 on the season, while SWOSU's Rileigh Ricken suffered the loss, falling to 1-1.

HSU returns to action on Saturday with another double-header scheduled against SWOSU, with first pitched slated for 1 p.m. at Dee White Field.
