Henderson State rallied for three runs in the bottom of the eighth-inning to beat Texas A&M-Texarkana 6-4, Tuesday at Clyde Berry Field in Arkadelphia, Ark.
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom half of the second, Henderson would take a 2-1 lead as
Turner Sparks laced a two-out double down the right-field line to score
Joseph Gary who was hit by a pitch.
Hunter Mayall followed with a RBI single up the middle that plated Sparks.
The Eagles tied the score in the top of the third, but doubles by
AJ Kruzel and Gary would put the Reddies back on top 3-2 after three innings.
Texas A&M-Texarkana, 25-16 on the season, scored a pair pf runs in the fourth-inning to take a 4-3 lead with the help of a pair of doubles by Kolton Perfect and Bobby Kramer.
Eagle starting pitcher Jacob Cobb-Adams held the Reddies in check the next three innings before handing things over to Bryton Thomas.
In the bottom half of the eighth,
Tadarious Hawkins led things off with a triple to left field and scored on an
Alex Morgan bunt to tie the score at 4-4.
Morgan advanced on a sacrifice bunt by
Luke McGuire and scored on Gary's second double of the game to give HSU a 5-4 lead.
Sparks would give the Reddies an insurance run with a single to right field to record his second RBI of the game.
Kris Priddy started the game and went four innings allowing 10 hits while striking out five Eagle batters.
Blake Patterson retired all six batters he faced including striking out three batters, while
Jay Hawley pitched an inning with a pair of punch outs.
Jordan Taylor pitched the eighth and picked up the win to improve to 2-0, while
Nick Vanthillo pitched the final inning to record his seventh save of the year.
The Reddies, 20-19 on the season, finished with nine hits in the game with Sparks going 2-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in, while Gary was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI. Also having two hits was Taylor who finished 2-for-4.
Henderson will begin a three-game Great American Conference series on Friday against Southern Nazarene in Bethany, Okla. with the first pitch set for 2 p.m.
