Reddie Softball Splits with Ouachita in Battle of the Ravine on Tuesday

Henderson State took on Ouachita Baptist in a Great American Conference double-header on Tuesday, winning game one 12-0 and falling in the second game 9-7.

The Reddies would get on the board early in the first contest, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning when a Keirsten Seahorn sacrifice fly out to left field plated Courtney Warren to score the first run.

On HSU's next at-bat, a wild pitch allowed Caroline Cullins to advance home to give HSU a 2-0 lead.

Henderson State then exploded for seven runs in the top of the third innings, started by a Hope Patterson single up the middle of the field that scored Ashlyn White.

A Morgan South double to left field followed Patterson's hit, which advanced Seahorn home and gave HSU a 4-0 lead.

Olivia Trapp would then keep the momentum up as she blasted a shot to left center field for a single which scored Patterson from third base.

Hits from Warren and Cullins would score Trapp and Shayla Wright for two more runs, and Seahorn would pick up an RBI by reaching on fielder's choice and scoring Warren which rounded out the seven-run inning for HSU.

Entering the fourth inning with a 9-0 lead, Caroline Cullins would smash a shot between the shortstop and second base of Ouachita, and utilized her speed to round the bases to pick up an inside-the-park home run, while also scoring Wright and Trapp for three RBI.

Madison Calvert would go the distance for HSU, pitching all five innings and giving up just four hits to improve her record to 10-9 on the season, while OBU's Marissa Butler suffered the loss.

The Reddies finished game one with a whopping 13 hits, while also forcing three Ouachita errors.

Cullins led all Reddies with four RBI in the contest, while Trapp was 3-for-4 with two RBI.

In the second game, HSU would once again take the early lead when Cullins singled up the middle to score Warren in the top of the first.

HSU tacked on another run in the top of the third inning when Patterson doubled to left-center field, scoring Cullins from second base.

However, Ouachita would erupt for five runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-2 lead.

After a Courtney Warren single which scored Michelle Sorensen in the fourth inning, HSU would tie the game up at 5-5 in the top of the fifth on an error by the catcher which allowed Seahorn and Alexis Morton to score.

Ouachita would once again answer, though, when Sarah Johnson singled past first base to score Suzie Gresham, and Kate Lacina gave the Tigers a 9-5 lead on a three-run homer over the center  field wall.

The Reddies put together a valiant comeback attempt in the top of the seventh inning, as pinch-hitter Destiny Garza blasted a single up the middle which scored Morgan South and Lakin Wolever and pulled HSU within two runs.

However, the Reddies could not manage to tie the game up, eventually falling after back-to-back fly-outs.

Sorensen would fall to 15-11 on the season with the loss in the circle, while Ouachita's Halley Ryburn picked up the win to improve to 1-1.

HSU compiled 14 hits in the contest to run their total to 27 for the two-game series, while Ouachita finished the day with a 15-hit two-game total.

The Reddies return to action on Friday at Dee White Field, taking on Southern Nazarene in a GAC double-header with first pitch notched at 5 p.m.
