Reddie Softball Takes Two from NWOSU on Saturday to Claim 3-1 Series Victory

Henderson State used a Saturday sweep of Northwestern Oklahoma to claim a 3-1 series victory over the Lady Rangers in Great American Conference action in Alva, Okla.

In game one on Saturday, the Reddies scored the game's first three runs when Hope Patterson cleared the bases with a double to left field, scoring Keirsten Seahorn, Ashlyn White, and Caroline Cullins to give HSU a 3-0 lead.

HSU would then tack on three more insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning to secure the victory, started by a Shayla Wright 2 RBI home run that scored Lakin Wolever.

Seahorn would then single to center field which advanced Cullins home for her second score of the contest, giving HSU the 6-0 lead and eventual win.

Madison Calvert picked up the win from the circle to improve to 9-9 on the season, pitching 5.1 innings for the Reddies and striking out three batters.

Karly Murray would suffer the loss for Northwestern to fall to 4-8 on the year.

HSU cranked out eight hits in the contest, including three from Seahorn and two from White.

Henderson State used 10 hits to advance to a come-from-behind victory in the second game, including two home runs from Ashlyn White and one from Keirsten Seahorn.

Northwestern Oklahoma got on the board early, taking a 1-0 lead after one inning when Madison McGraw doubled to right field to score Alexis Hayes.

HSU tied the game in the top of the third when a White double scored Shayla Wright from third, but NWOSU would answer with a three-run bottom of the inning to take a 4-1 lead heading into the fourth.

HSU tacked on a run in the top of the fifth to pull within two, making the score 4-2 when White smashed a solo homer over the wall.

The Reddies then exploded for five runs in the top of the sixth inning, started by a Courtney Warren single that scored Wright, pulling the Reddies within one.

White then came through for HSU once again, knocking out a three-run homer that scored both Cullins and Warren and giving HSU a 6-4 lead.

On the Reddies next at-bat, Seahorn followed White with a solo home run of her own to increase HSU's lead to three.

NWOSU could not draw any closer, as Michelle Sorensen closed the game out pitching a scoreless final inning.

Sorensen pitched a complete game for the Reddies, striking out 13 batters and improving her record to 15-10 on the season.

Madison Garza would suffer the loss for NWOSU to fall to 4-15 on the year.

White finished the contest with a whopping five RBI, going 3-for-4 and scoring two runs herself.

HSU returns to action on Tuesday across the street at Ouachita Baptist for a GAC double-header against the Tigers beginning at 5 p.m.
