The Henderson State volleyball team lost two tough matches Friday at the Peggie Martin Crossover Classic in Warrensburg, Mo.
The Reddies opened the tournament losing to No. 11 Central Missouri 3-0 (20-25, 11-25, 18-25).
Henderson was led by sophomore opposite hitter
Sharon Tukuaoga who had nine kills and freshman setter
Haley Higgins who had 13 assists and five digs.
The Jennies got out to an early 7-1 lead in the first set, but the Reddies slowly chipped away and cut the lead to two points on two separate occasions at 18-16 and 20-18, but Central Missouri went on a 5-2 run to take game one 25-20.
Set two started close for the first few points, but with the score at 10-8 in the Jennies favor, Central Missouri ripped off a 15-3 run to quickly put the Reddies down 0-2 and take the second game 25-11.
Battling to survive in the third set, the Reddies jumped out to an early 11-6 lead, but another run by Central Missouri quickly knotted it up again at 13-13. From there, the Jennies finished things off with a 12-5 spurt to win the final game 25-18. Freshman outside hitter
Kamra Jackson had seven kills and junior libero
Sydney Skelton had 11 digs for Henderson in defeat.
The Reddies lost the nightcap 3-1 (22-25, 11-25, 25-22 and 20-25) to Newman.
After losing the first two sets, Henderson got seven kills including the game winner by Tukuaoga to force a fourth set.
The two teams battled back-and-forth in set four before scored three straight points to take a 16-13 lead. Henderson would get no closer as Newman closed out the match with attack winners by Hailey Braddy.
Tukuaoga once again led Henderson with a .368 attack percentage with the help of 19 kills. Bolf added 10 winners in the match.
Higgins had 36 set assists while Skelton totaled 15 defensive digs.
Henderson will finish the tournament with a matchup against Northwest Missouri State on Saturday at 3 p.m.
