Henderson faces SAU for 100th time Thursday in GAC tilt

The Henderson State women's basketball team looks to remain near the top of the Great American Conference standings when it takes on Southern Arkansas for the 100th time, Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. in the Duke Wells Center.

Series:
The Reddies have the advantage in the all-time series with the Lady Muleriders 51-47-1 but are only 5-6 against SAU since the inception of the GAC in 2011 and lost both games to SAU last season. Thursday night's game will be the hundredth meeting between the two schools in women's basketball. Henderson has not beaten SAU since Jan. 3, 2015.

Henderson State Notes:
Henderson is 5-7 overall and 5-1 in conference play heading into Thursday night's contest, tied for second-place in the GAC standings. The Reddies went 1-1 last week, falling to Southwestern Oklahoma, but then rebounding to defeat Northwestern Oklahoma on Saturday.

The victory over the Lady Rangers was highlighted by a career-high 31 points for sophomore Brittany Branum and a 16-point, 10-rebound, 10-assist triple-double for freshman Pink Jones; just the third triple-double by a women's basketball player in GAC history and the third triple-double in NCAA Division II basketball this season.

Jones has been a catalyst for the Reddies so far in her first year of college basketball, as she leads the team in scoring with 14.3 points per game. Fellow freshman Hailey Estes has also been a spark for Henderson, as she leads all GAC freshmen in double-doubles with three and averages a team-high 7.6 rebounds per game.

The Reddies, as a team, have been high-powered on offense this season. They average 76.5 points per game, making them the second-best scoring offense in the GAC. Henderson also leads the conference in offensive rebounding with 14.9 offensive boards per contest and is second in turnover margin at plus 3.3.

Southern Arkansas Notes:
The Lady Muleriders enter Thursday's game 3-7 and 1-5 in GAC play. They have lost their last two conference games to Oklahoma Baptist and Southern Nazarene.

SAU is led by freshman Kimberly Crown, who averages 10.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, and junior Anna Djedjemel, who has 31 assists in 10 games.

As a team, SAU is 11th in the GAC in scoring offense and averages just 58.6 points per game, but is fourth in field goal percentage defense, holding opponents to just under 37% shooting from the floor.

Ticket Information:
Admission for all GAC doubleheaders is $5 for adults and $4 for students. HSU students are admitted free with student ID.
