Henderson State shot just 34 percent from the field and committed 16 turnovers as No. 22 Arkansas-Monticello beat the Reddies 74-57, Saturday at the Duke Wells Center.
The Reddies, 11-3 overall and 6-2 in the Great American Conference, converted on just 19-of-56 from the field including 5-of-19 from the 3-point line.
Henderson built an early 9-4 lead with the help of a pair of
Matt Panaggio layups and a 3-point field goal by
Kevin Kozan, but the lead didn't last long as UAM quickly tied the score at 12-12 on a Deryton Hill basket.
The teams would go back-and-forth until Henderson suffered a four-minute scoring drought late in the half as UAM built a 39-28 lead with 1:14 remaining in the half.
Eric Dailey would get the Reddies back on the board with a 3-point field goal and
Kaylon Tappin added a pair of free throws to cut the deficit to 39-33 at the break.
UAM, 12-0 and 8-0, controlled the entire second half with a strong inside game as the Weevils outscored the Reddies 35 to 24 in the half with the help 24 points in the paint and 10 points off turnovers.
Tappin would lead the Reddies in scoring with 18 points to go along with 7 rebounds.
Chris Hawkins added 11 points and 8 boards.
UAM's Cobe Goosby led all scorers with 21 points while Hill finished with 15.
Henderson will journey across Highway 7 on Monday to face Ouachita Baptist with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m.
