Henderson State committed 19 turnovers and had troubles with its perimeter shooting as the Reddies lost to Minot State 78-50, Saturday at the GAC/NSIC Challenge in Lancaster, Texas.
The Reddies, 1-1 on the season, converted on just 2-of-20 shots from beyond the arc and managed just two offensive rebounds in the game.
Henderson jumped out to an 8-4 lead as the Reddies had three consecutive fast break steals and dunks, two by
Brad Nairn and one by
Tanner Hamilton.
Minot State (2-0) then proceeded to go on a 13-0 run as the Reddies missed their next six shots with the Beavers taking a 17-8 lead with 11:09 left in the first half.
The Beavers would push their lead to 33-22 at the break behind Tyler Rudolph's 20 points while the Reddie offense hit on just 10-of-25 shots from the field.
Henderson collected just one offensive rebound in the half and committed 11 turnovers.
Minot State also had the advantage at the foul line going to the charity stripe 13 times, making 10, while the Reddies were just 1-of-4 from the line.
It was more of the same in the second half as Henderson made just 9-of-22 shots from the field against a tough and experienced Beaver defense.
Rudolph continued to dominate offensively for MSU finishing with 37 points, while Russ Davis added 16.
Josh Jones and
DJ Franklin led the Reddies in scoring with 11 points each.
Nairn finished the game with 8 points in just 10 minutes of action due to foul trouble.
Chris Parker and Hamilton each had 7 points.
Henderson finished the game shooting 40 percent from the field (19-of-47) while Minot State was 24-of-49 for 49 percent including knocking down 8-of-20 3-point field goals.
Henderson will next travel to Alva, Okla. on Thursday to begin Great American Conference play as the Reddies take on Northwestern Oklahoma with tipoff slated for 7:30 p.m.
