Reddies Lose 15-inning Thriller to Northwest Missouri

In the second longest game in Henderson State baseball history, Northwest Missouri scored four runs in the top of the 15th-inning to beat the Reddies 10-6, Friday at Clyde Berry Field in Arkadelphia, Ark.

Both teams had numerous chances to win the game in extra frames, but several big defensive plays and great pitching prolonged the game for six extra frames.

NWSU's Nikko Pablo found himself in a bases loaded jam with one-out in the 14th as Jordan Taylor reached on a one-out double. After an intentional walk given to Hayden Lessenberry, Jackson Martin belted a sharply hit ball up the middle to load the bases with one out.

With the infield drawn in, Dylan McCain hit a rope to shortstop that resulted in a double-play to end the inning and give momentum to the Bearcats.

Northwest Missouri, 6-0 on the season, went on to score four runs on three hits in the top of the 15th with the big blow being a two-run double by Landon Figg.

The Bearcats got on the board first with a run in the first-inning, but the Reddies scored two runs in the second with the help of a Joe Myers double and run-scoring singles by Luke McGuire and Brentten Schwaab .

After Northwest Missouri regained the lead with two runs in the fourth, Henderson knotted up the score at 3-3 in the bottom of the inning as Myers led off the inning with a walk and advanced to third on a McGuire single.  Myers scored on a ground ball double play.

In the Bearcat fifth, Ozzie Adams hit a two-run homer that hugged the left field line to give NWMS a 5-3 advantage.

In the Reddie sixth, McGuire picked up his third single of the day to drive in Colton Coffman who walked to lead off the frame.  Alan Hall later scored McGuire with a single of his own to tie the score at 5-5.

Henderson, 4-1 on the year, took the lead in seventh on a McCain infield single that plated Coffman who reached on an error and advanced on back to back wild pitches.

The Bearcats tied the score in the eighth with the help of two hits.

The Reddies loaded the bases in the eighth with two outs, but Pablo forced Hayden Lessenberry to fly out to deep centerfield to end the inning.

The Reddies went down in order the next four innings before mounting the big threat in the 14th.

Pablo pitched the final 8 1/3 innings for the Bearcats and gave up five hits while striking out five Reddies.

Henderson had 11 hits on the day with McGuire going 3-for-7 with 2 RBI while Myers was 2-for-6.

The Reddies used five pitchers in the game with Luke Tebbetts getting the start. Tebbetts went 6 innings and surrendered five runs on nine hits.

Logan DeRossier pitched a shutout inning, with Jon Youngblood pitching 2 1/3 innings of relief giving up one run.

Blake Patterson threw 3 2/3 innings and struck out seven batters. NWMS had runners in scoring position three times, but the sophomore from Benton, Ark. stranded three baserunners with the help of his crafty off-speed pitch.

Hayden Daniel was tabbed with the loss in pitching the final two innings.

The Reddies will next take on No. 3 ranked Central Missouri on Saturday with the first pitch set for 6 p.m. at Clyde Berry Field.
