Central Missouri put together a four run fifth-inning as the No. 3 ranked Mules beat Henderson State 7-2, Saturday at Clyde Berry Field in Arkadelphia, Ark.
UCM, 4-2 on the year, collected six hits in the game and made each one count, while Henderson stranded 10 base runners on the night.
Parker Jones got the Reddies on the board quickly as the senior from The Colony, Texas crushed a JJ Benes pitch over the left field wall to put the Reddies on top 1-0.
UCM took the lead in the fourth-inning scoring a pair of runs with the help of an Erick Webb triple to the right-centerfield power alley to score Travis Stroup who walked to lead off the inning. Webb then scored on an infield ground out by Miles Orscheln to put the Mules on top 2-1.
Henderson, 4-2 on the year, had a golden opportunity to put up a big number in the bottom of the inning as the Reddies loaded the bases with
Dylan McCain starting things with a single, followed by
Joe Myers reaching on an error and
Luke McGuire being hit by a pitch with no outs.
UCM pitcher Steven D'Amico retired
Brentten Schwaab on strikes for the first out, but
Alan Hall drove in a run when he grounded out to second to tie the score at 2-2. Â D'Amico then struck out Jones to keep the Reddies from doing any more damage.
Again the Mules answered in the top of the fifth as John Fairchild led off with a double to left-center field. Justin Graff-Rowe drove home Fairchild with a single up the middle to give UCM a 3-2 lead.
Central Missouri proceeded to load the bases with two outs as Stroup doubled and Collin Nevil reached on an intentional walk.
Webb then stepped to the plate and cleared the bases with a double off the leftfield wall to give the visitors a 6-2 advantage.
Henderson was held in check the remainder of the game while Central Missouri added a run in the ninth for the final tally.
The Reddies collected seven hits in the game with
Colton Coffman leading the way going 2-for-3 with
Chris Hunt pitched six complete innings, striking out seven batters in a losing effort.
The Reddies will face Truman State on Sunday with the first pitch set for Noon at Clyde Berry Field.
