Reddies Roll to 10-6 Win Over Truman State

Henderson State used a six-run first-inning and a four-run seventh to beat Truman State 10-6, Sunday at Clyde Berry Field in Arkadelphia, Ark.

Henderson, 5-2 on the season, belted out 13 hits with Hayden Lessenberry going 3-for-4, Jordan Taylor 2-for-5 with a home run and a pair of runs batted in, and Kearon
Redmon having a pair of hits as well in three plate appearances.

Truman, 1-3 on the year, quickly got on the board scoring two runs in the top of the first, but the Reddies responded with six runs in the bottom half of the frame

Alan Hall led things off reaching when he was hit by a pitch before scoring on a double down the left field line by Parker Jones. Taylor belted a single to right field to score Jones and tie the score at 2-2.

Lessenberry joined the hit parade with a double of his own to right field to advance Taylor. Dylan McCain then grounded to shortstop that was mishandled which allowed Taylor to score and Lessenberry to move to third.

With runners on the corners, Redmon collected his first hit of the season with a single up the middle to chase Bulldog starting pitcher Matt Tometz.

With the bases loaded and no outs, Nolan Ryan grounded out to short to add another Reddie run, with Turner Sparks bringing home the final run of the inning on a sacrifice fly.

Truman State cut into the Reddie lead scoring two unearned runs in the fourth-inning to make the score 6-4 before tying the score at 6-6 in the seventh with the help of a bases loaded, two-out, two-run single by Wyatt Phones.

The game wasn't tied for long as Taylor took Tyler Blackington's first offering in the bottom of the inning over the scoreboard in right field to put the Reddies back on top 7-6.

Henderson went on to load the bases as Lessenberry collected his third hit of the game, followed by a single by McCain and a sacrifice bunt by Luke McGuire that was misplayed by the Truman State defense.

Nolan Ryan added two more runs with his first hit as a Reddie as the junior from Woodbury, Minn. drove a single to left field. Sparks followed with a single of his own to score another run to give Henderson a 10-6 advantage.

Austin Cross pitched six complete innings, struck out two batters and scattered nine hits in a no decision. Hayden Daniel pitched the seventh-inning and was tabbed with the win to go 1-1 on the year.

Beau Shelby pitched two scoreless inning to finish the game for the Reddies and struck out two batters.

The Reddies will next take on Arkansas Tech on Tuesday in non-conference action with the first pitch set for 6 p.m. at Clyde Berry Field.
