Ouachita Baptist uses big second half to defeat Henderson 77-58

ARKADELPHIA, AR - Henderson State got 16 points and 10 rebounds from Hailey Estes and had two other players in double figures, but Ouachita Baptist used a big second half to get past the Reddies 77-58 on Monday night in the Duke Wells Center.

The Reddies got off to a strong start behind three first quarter 3-pointers from Estes to take a 19-12 lead at the end of the first period. Henderson extended its advantage early in the second quarter, using two more 3-pointers from Estes and two buckets from Pink Jones to stretch the lead out to 31-19 at the 3:43 mark of the second. The Lady Tigers answered over the next 3:43, going on a 10-3 run to end the half and cut the Reddie lead to just 34-29 at the break.

The third quarter proved big for Ouachita, as they outscored HSU 25-14 in the period to take the lead, 54-48, going into the game's final 10 minutes. In the final quarter the Reddies could not get anything going, as OBU used a 16-5 run to stretch the deficit out to 70-53 with 3:49 left. Henderson shot just 15.8 percent from the field in the fourth, while the Lady Tigers shot 75 percent and pulled away to win it 77-58.

Estes led the Reddies with a double-double, but did not score in the second half. Pink Jones also chipped in 13 points for Henderson, while Brittany Branum had 12. Henderson won the rebounding battle 47-45 but shot just 28 percent from the field in the game, while Ouachita shot 50 percent. The Reddies also struggled to keep the Lady Tigers out of the paint, as OBU scored 48 points down low, 24 of which came from Shakyla Begnaud, who was 11-of-12 from the field on the night. The loss drops Henderson to 10-14 on the year and 7-11 in Great American Conference play.

The Reddies next game is Thursday at 5:30 p.m. against Harding in Searcy, Arkansas.
