Henderson Baseball Begins Weekend With Split Versus Oklahoma Baptist

Hayden Lessenberry banged out five hits to lead Henderson State to a double-header split with Oklahoma Baptist with the Reddies winning game one 8-3 before losing game two 6-0.

Lessenberry went 5-for-8 on the afternoon with a pair of doubles and three runs driven in.

With the win Cody Hooten recorded his 155th win as head coach of the Reddies to move into second-place all-time in HSU history ahead of John Harvey who had 154 wins from 2005-2010. Clyde Berry is the all-time leader in victories with 205.

In the first game of the series, the Reddies clubbed out 11 hits with Lessenberry going 4-for-5 with a double and three runs batted in to lead the way.

Henderson scored a run in the first-inning on Lessenberry's first hit of the game driving home Alan Hall who reached on an infield single and stole second.

After OBU tied the score in the second, the Reddies regained the lead in the third by scoring a pair of runs. Colton Coffman scored the first run on a sacrifice fly to score Jordan Taylor who walked to lead off the inning.

Luke McGuire plated Lessenberry with a single to right field to make the score 3-1. Lessenberry reached on a double earlier in the frame.

Henderson added two more runs in the fifth on a two-run home run by Dylan McCain then added three more runs in the eighth with the big hit being a two-run single by Lessenberry.

Luke Tebbetts pitched 6 2/3 innings, striking out four batters and allowing a run to get the win and improve to 3-0 on the year.

Parker Jones and McGuire both had two hits in the game to help the Reddies offense.

In game two, Oklahoma Baptist scored five runs in the third-inning to beat the Reddies 6-0.

The Reddies managed three hits in the game with Lessenberry having a double, while Myers and Taylor both went 1-for-2.

The two teams will play the finale on Saturday with the first pitch set for 1 p.m. in Shawnee, Okla.
