Reddies Softball Splits With Oklahoma Baptist

Henderson State opened Great American Conference play splitting a double-header with Oklahoma Baptist winning the opener 6-0, before losing game two 4-3 in 8 innings.

The Reddies used a pair of three-run innings to beat the Bison in the opener.

In the Henderson second, Kaitlyn Felder started things with a double to center field and scored on a double by Ashleigh Erb. Shayla Wright then belted her first home run of the season to put the Reddies on top 3-0.

Henderson, 7-7 on the season, added three insurance runs in the fifth frame as the Reddies put together four hits with Alyssa Dixon getting things going with an infield single followed by a single to right field by Wright.

The Reddies went on to load the bases with Keirsten Seahorn hitting a double to right-center field, clearing the bases to put Henderson on top 6-0.

Michelle Sorensen went the distance in the circle striking out six batters while allowing four hits in improving to 5-4 on the year.

In the second game, the Bison scored three unearned runs in the second to take an early 3-0 lead.

Henderson responded with a run in the bottom of the inning as Seahorn led off with a double off the center field fence and scored on an infield hit by Erb.

In the Henderson fifth, Courtney Warren began things with a single followed by Alexis Morton reaching on a walk. Selena Mendoza moved both runners on a sacrifice bunt to set up Seahorn. The senior from Gilmer, Texas hit into a fielder's choice with Warren being tagged out at the plate.

The Reddies went on to load the bases for Olivia Trapp. Trapp hit a bloop single that landed just inside the right field line to score two runs and tie the score at 3-3.

In the bottom of the seventh Henderson loaded the bases with one out as Seahorn singled and Destiny Garza followed with a double off the wall to put runners on
second and third. After an intentional walk was issued to Trapp, the Bison made two great defensive plays to force extra-innings.

Oklahoma Baptist manufactured an unearned run in the top half of the inning to go on top 4-3.

Again Henderson threatened as Courtney Warren hit a one-out double down the left field line. However the Reddies were unable to score the tying run as Morton flew out to short and Mendoza grounded out to end the game.

The Reddies had eight hits in the contest with Warren leading the way going 3-for-5 while Seahorn was 2-for-3.

The two teams will finish the four-game series with a double-header Saturday with the first pitch set for Noon at Dee White Field.
