Reddies Cruise to 8-1 Win over Lincoln

Henderson State improved to 2-0 on the season as the Reddies beat Lincoln 8-1, Friday at the Ronnie Hawkins Classic in Arkadelphia, Ark.

The Reddies began the day with a 9-2 win over Northeastern State. Henderson compiled 16 hits in the two games including five for extra bases.

Lincoln the second game of the day scoring an unearned run in the first-inning to take a 1-0 before the Reddies tied the score in the bottom half of the second.

Kiersten Seahorn led off the frame with a single up the middle and later scored when Lakin Wolever delivered a two-out single to left field.

Henderson took the lead in the third inning as the Reddies got a single from Bethany Allen and a RBI double by Courtney Warren to right-centerfield to take a 3-1 advantage.

Allen continued her huge day at the plate as the junior from Mineral Wells, Texas added three runs to the board in the Reddies fourth with a 3-run home run to left field to make the score 6-1.

Allen drove in Selena Mendoza who was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and Ashleigh Erb who walked later in the frame.

The Reddies pushed two more runs across the plate in the fifth as Destiny Garza and Mendoza delivered back-to-back singles to score Courtney Warren who reached on an error to begin the inning.

With the bases loaded Alexis Morton drove in Garza with a sacrifice fly to put the Reddies on top 8-1 after five innings of play.

Cayleigh Guthrie held Lincoln in check for most of the game as the freshman from Joshua, Texas went the distance to pick up her first collegiate win.

Guthrie surrendered one unearned run, scattering four hits while striking out four batters.

Allen went 6-for 8 with a home run and 5 RBI in the two games Friday to lead the Reddies, while Seahorn finished the day going 3-for-6 with a pair of runs drive in.

Henderson will play Missouri Western at 10 a.m. and Rogers State at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Dee White Field.
