HSU Baseball Improves to 3-0 with Win Over PSU, Hooten Captures 150th Win

Henderson State combined for eight runs in the sixth and seventh innings to beat Pittsburg State 9-2, Saturday in Fort Smith.

With the victory, the Reddies improved to 3-0 on the season with head coach Cody Hooten picking up his 150th win at Henderson.

The Reddies struck first as Alan Hall led off the game with a single to left field, stole second and later scored on a ground out by Jordan Taylor.

Pittsburg State answered with a run in the fourth and took a lead the following inning as Hunter Clanin doubled and scored on a sacrifice bunt.

The Reddies put together five hits in the sixth-inning scoring three runs to take a 4-2 lead.

Parker Jones, Taylor and Hayden Lessenberry all singled to load the bases with no outs. All three runners advanced on a passed ball with Jones scoring the tying run.

Colton Coffman then stepped to the plate and delivered a two-run single to left field to put Henderson on top 4-2.

In the Henderson State seventh, the Reddies plated five runs on just one hit.

Hall walked to lead off the inning, followed by Jones being hit by pitch. Taylor then reached on a fielder's choice and an error by Pittsburg State which allowed Hall to score.

Another Gorilla error allowed Lessenberry to reach and load the bases for the Reddies.

A wild pitch followed to advance all runners and score Henderson's second run of the inning. PSU elected to intentionally walk Coffman, again loading the bases for the Reddies.

After a pair of strikeouts, Henderson would benefit from another passed ball. Joe Myers then provided a two run double to help secure the win.

Henderson State got another strong pitching performance as three Reddie hurlers combined to allow just one earned run on four hits while striking out six.

In his collegiate debut, Austin Cross pitched five innings, surrendering four hits and striking out a pair of batters.

Bryant Haralson would come on in relief to pitch three shutout innings to pick up the win.
Jay Hawley pitched the ninth and fanned all three batters he faces.

The Reddies collected nine hits in the game with Lessenberry and Myers having two hits each.

In the three games over the weekend, Reddie pitchers allowed just 15 hits, 3 earned runs and struck out 21 batters.

Offensively, Parker Jones went 7-for-11 with a pair of doubles, while Joe Myers was 4-for-9.
