Bryant Haralson stuck out 11 batters and surrendered just one hit to lead Henderson State to a 7-0 win over Nebraska-Kearney, Thursday at Clyde Berry Field.
Haralson cruised through the Lopers lineup as the junior from Atkins, Ark. retired the final 18 batters he faced to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Playing at home for the first time this season, Henderson State combined for nine hits offensively to improve to 4-0 on the season, Â
Haralson began the game striking out the side on just 10 pitches to set the tone. The Reddie offense then went to work scoring a run in the bottom half of the first.
Alan Hall led off the game with a bunt single and advanced to third following a walk issued to
Parker Jones and an error by UNK catcher Kirk McLeod.
Hayden Lessenberry plated Hall for the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly to right field to give the Reddies the early advantage.
After a pair of scoreless innings, the Reddies tacked on a run in the fourth-inning as Henderson put together a pair of singles including a leadoff safety by
Joe Myers to left field.
Myers advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Brentten Schwaab and advanced to third on an infield single by Jones. Myers scored when UNK pitcher Tanner Spencer delivered a wild pitch to put the Reddies on top 2-0 after four innings.
Henderson loaded the bases the next inning as Lessenberry and
Colton Coffman began things with back-to-back singles. With one-out,
Luke McGuire was hit by a pitch for the second time to load the bases.
Relief pitcher Sean Laughlin entered the game and recorded a strike out, but the Reddies would not be denied as Schwaab laced a single to right field to score two runs to increase the lead 4-0
The Reddies kept rolling with two-outs breaking the game open as Hall and Jones followed with back-to-back singles scoring three additional runs as Henderson would lead 7-0 after five innings. Â Â Â
Hall led the Henderson offense going 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, while Jones had two with a run batted in.
Foxx Smith pitched the final two innings for the Reddies and kept UNK in check retiring six of the seven batters he faced.
The Reddies will next take on Northwest Missouri on Friday with the first pitch set for 3 p.m. at Clyde Berry Field.
