Bryant Haralson recorded a complete-game shutout, while
Joe Myers provided a solo home run to lead Henderson State to a 1-0 win over Southeastern Oklahoma, Saturday in Durant, Okla.
The Reddies, 16-7 overall and 10-4 in the Great American Conference, lost the opener against the Storm 1-0.
Haralson struck out eight batters while allowing just three hits to help the Reddies salvage a split.
The junior right-hander retired the final nine batters he faced after surrendering a single in the fifth. Haralson fanned six of the last eight batters including all three in the 7
th-inning to improve to 4-2 on the season.
For the year, Haralson has struck out 49 batters while walking just three hitters which includes an intentional walk. Opponents have just a .153 average with the Atkins, Ark. native sporting a 1.45 earned run average in 43 1/3 innings of work.
Myers provided all the run support Haralson would need with his solo home run to lead off the second-inning.
HSU managed just two hits in the game with Joe Shepherd having the Reddies' other hit, a single in the seventh-inning.
In game one,
Luke Tebbetts allowed just two hits and struck out five batters but SOSU scored an unearned run in the sixth-inning benefitting on a Reddie error to for the only run of the game.
Henderson collected 10 hits in the game, but could not plate a run while leaving 10 runners stranded.
The Reddies had the leadoff batter on base in the sixth and eighth-innings with their best chance to score in the eighth as
Alan Hall led off with a double to left-center field.
Hayden Lessenberry then reached on an infield single to put runners of the corners with no outs.
SOSU pitcher Brandon Wolski forced
Jordan Taylor to line out to short, then retire the next two Reddie hitters on strikes.
In the Savage Storm sixth-inning, Luke Thomas led off with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Travis Spinney which was mishandled. Another sacrifice bunt advanced both runners with the eventual game-winning run scoring on a ground out to second base.
Hall and
Parker Jones had two hits to lead Henderson's offense.
Tebbetts pitched 7 1/3 innings and was tabbed with the tough loss falling to 4-1 on the season.
The two teams will play the third and decisive game of the series on Sunday with the first pitch set for Noon in Durant.
