East Central broke a 2-2 tie in the eighth-inning scoring a pair of runs to beat Henderson State 4-2 and take the final game of the three game series, Sunday in Arkadelphia, Ark.
The Reddies, 18-10 overall and 12-6 in the Great American Conference, still managed to win its fifth league series after winning both games of Saturday's double-header 7-3 and 2-0.
The Tigers, 9-17 overall and 8-10 in league play, put together four hits in the eighth-inning and scored two runs to salvage the final game.
Henderson took a 1-0 lead in the second-inning as
Parker Jones and
Colton Coffman had back-to-back singles to lead off the frame with Jones scoring on a sacrifice fly by
Jordan Taylor.
East Central grabbed its first lead in the fifth-inning scoring two runs with the help of two hits and a Reddie error.
The Reddies quickly tied the score in the bottom of the inning as Henderson scored without a benefit of a hit as
Dylan McCain and
Kearon Redmon both walked and
Joe Myers and
Hayden Lessenberry were both hit by pitches with two outs. However, that was all the runs Henderson could manage as the Reddies left the bases loaded.
The Reddies had opportunities in the sixth and eighth innings putting a pair of runners on base both frames, but Henderson could not cash in as ECU relief pitcher Sheae Edmonds worked of the jam both times.
Henderson just could not get the timely hit needed as the Reddies left 11 players on base.
Chris Hunt pitched well going seven complete innings, striking out five batters, while surrendering three hits and one earned in a no decision.
Jay Hawley was tabbed with the loss as he gave up two runs on four hits in the eighth-inning.
The Reddies totaled seven hits in the game with Coffman going 2-fo-4 and McCain going 2-fo-3.
Henderson State will next play host to Arkansas-Monticello in a three-game GAC series beginning with a single game on Friday with the first pitch set for 6 p.m. at Clyde Berry Field.
