Reddies drop two in Monticello to Blossoms

GAME ONE:
Michelle Sorensen carried a no-hitter into the bottom of the ninth inning, but Arkansas-Monticello got some timely hitting to scratch a run and win in walk-off fashion 1-0 over Henderson State.

The Reddies were limited to just three hits in the game, but Sorensen shut the Blossoms down at the plate, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out 10 on the afternoon.

Henderson had a chance in the bottom of the eighth when Alyssa Dixon doubled with two outs to get the Reddies their first runner in scoring position, but the next batter popped out to end the threat.

UAM finally broke through in the bottom of the ninth after a single and a double gave the Blossoms runners on second and third with one out. Sorensen got the next batter to ground to the second baseman, who went to first base for the out, but smart base running scored the runner from third to win it for UAM 1-0.

GAME TWO:
UAM struck early with four runs in the bottom of the first and rode that momentum to a 6-3 victory over Henderson State in the second game of Friday's double-header.

Henderson scored first when Alexis Morton got home on a wild pitch to make it 1-0 in the first, but UAM answered immediately with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 4-1 lead and then tacked on another in the second on a Reddies' error to make it 5-1.

The Reddies tried to get a rally going in the fifth, when Courtney Warren and Morton both scored on a throwing error on the UAM third basemen, which cut the lead to 5-3. However, the Blossoms responded with an insurance homerun in the sixth and held off HSU in the final half-inning to win it 6-3 and take both games on the day.

Despite the loss, Morton had a nice day for the Reddies, going 2-for-3 at the plate and scoring two of Henderson's three runs.

HSU plays the second double-header of the series against UAM tomorrow, with the first pitch of game one scheduled for 1 p.m.
