Henderson State's pitching staff shutout Harding in a double-header on Saturday as the Reddies beat the Bisons 2-0 and 3-0.
The Reddie hurlers allowed just one earned run in the three games and combined for 24 strikeouts while walking just two Harding hitters.
The three-game sweep of the Bisons improved Henderson's record to 12-4 overall and 7-2 in the Great American Conference.
The Reddies managed just five hits in the opener scoring a run in the second and third innings with both runs coming with two outs.
Henderson loaded the bases in the second frame as
Brentten Schwaab was hit by a pitch followed by a walk delivered to
Alan Hall.
Parker Jones kept things going with an infield single to load the bases.
Jordan Taylor provided the first run with a shallow single to left field to score Schwaab.
In the third, Henderson scored without the benefit of a hit as both
Dylan McCain and
Joe Myers walked and advanced a base on a ground out by
Luke McGuire. McCain scored when Schwaab reached on an error by the Bisons third baseman to increase the Reddies lead to 2-0.
Meanwhile,
Chris Hunt cruised through the Harding lineup pitching eight innings while striking outs seven batters and giving up five hits to get the win and improve to 4-1.
Blake Patterson pitched the final inning fanning a batter while picking up his fourth save of the year.
In the finale, Henderson scored in the first inning as Hall singled and later scored on a two-out base hit by
Hayden Lessenberry to centerfield. Following a walk given to
Colton Coffman, McCain hit a bloop single over the outstretched arms of the Harding second baseman that scored Lessenberry to give the Reddies the early 2-0 lead.
Henderson increased its lead to 3-0 in the fourth-inning as McCain started off the inning with a single to left field followed by a bunt single by
Joe Myers. After both runners advanced on a passed ball,
Kearon Redmon hit a sacrifice fly to score McCain.
Bryant Haralson worked out of jams in the third and fourth innings and proceeded to pick up the complete-game win to improve to 3-2 on the season.
Haralson struck out eight batters and surrendered five hits in the seven innings of work.
Lessenberry led Henderson's offense in the series going 5-for-9 with a pair of doubles, while Myers and McCain had three hits each. Â
The Reddies will next play host to Ouachita Baptist on Monday in a non-conference affair with the first pitch set for 6 p.m. at Clyde Berry Field. The game was originally scheduled for Feb. 21 but was postponed due to inclement weather.
