Reddies Hold Off Late Tiger Rally to Win 14-11

Henderson State held off a furious rally by Ouachita Baptist as the Reddies beat the Tigers 14-11, Monday at Clyde Berry Field in Arkadelphia.

OBU, 5-14 on the season, combined to score 10 runs in the final four innings, but HSU relief pitcher Blake Patterson entered the ninth and got the Reddies out of the bases loaded jam to record his fifth save of the year.

After OBU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first-inning with a Justin Weigle solo home run, the Reddies scored four runs in the bottom of the inning without the use of a hit.

Henderson sent nine batters to the plate in the inning with three batters being hit by a pitch and three additional Reddies reaching on walks.

The Reddies added single runs in the third and fourth innings with the help of three more walks and a single by Jackson Martin to increase the lead to 6-1.

OBU cut the deficit to 6-3 scoring a pair of runs in the sixth-inning. Henderson, however, responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame.

Jordan Taylor led off the inning with a double followed by a single by Parker Jones. Kearon Redmon drove in one run in on a ground out while Nolan Ryan would plate another run with a single up the middle to make the score 9-3.

Again OBU answered with three runs in the top of the seventh, but the Reddies scored five runs in the bottom of the frame with Redmon providing a grand slam to make the score 14-6.

OBU scored four runs in the eighth and one more in the ninth before Patterson shut the door on the Tigers.

Austin Cross pitched five innings, striking out seven batters in recording his first win of the year.

The Reddies will next play host to Union on Tuesday in a non-conference affair with the first pitch set for 4 p.m. at Clyde Berry Field. The Bulldogs enter the game ranked No. 24 in the latest Collegiate Baseball poll with a 16-3 record.
