Henderson Fights Past Dallas Baptist 3-1 at Tiger Invitational

ADA, Okla. - Behind 20 kills and 18 digs from Courtney Bolf, Henderson State defeated Dallas Baptist 3-1 (25-17, 22-25, 26-24, 25-18) to notch its second win at the Tiger Invitational in Ada, Oklahoma.

SET ONE: Henderson got off to a good start to the match, as three quick kills from Kamra Jackson helped the Reddies grab an early 8-3 lead. DBU responded, though, with a methodical 12-7 run over the next several minutes to close the gap to just 15-14. At that point, Henderson took control, as the Reddies took 10 of the next 13 points to win the set convincingly, 25-17, and go up 1-0 in the match. Bolf sparked Henderson with five kills in the set.

SET TWO: Dallas Baptist came out firing in the second frame, winning the first six points of the set in route to a quick 9-3 advantage. Down early, Henderson came back with a 10-5 run of its own to trim the lead to 14-13, but the Lady Patriots kept the Reddies at bay, eventually opening the lead back out to 22-18. Henderson tried to claw its way back in the final moments, even cutting the lead to just 23-22 late, but DBU would not be denied, as they took the final two points to win it 25-22 and tie the match, 1-1.

SET THREE: Thing were tight at the start of the third set, but with the score sitting at 7-6 in the Reddies favor, they went on a quick 6-1 spurt to open up a 13-7 lead. The Lady Patriots won the next three points to get within three, 13-10, but Henderson responded by taking seven of the next 10, three of which came on kills by Jackson, to seemingly take control, 20-13. DBU would not go away, though, as two service aces helped spark a big 7-1 Patriots' run, bringing them within 21-20. The Reddies withstood the surge from DBU, and used kills from Bolf, Karlie Greene and Violet Williams to take three of the next four and seize set-point. The Lady Patriots would again battle it out, winning three-straight to knot things up 24-24, but back-to-back kills from libero Sydney Skelton and Williams finally ended DBU's hopes and gave Henderson a 26-24 win and a 2-1 lead in the match. Williams, Bolf and Jackson all came up big for the Reddies in the second set victory, with each racking up four kills in the set.

SET FOUR: Down 2-1, DBU started quickly in the fourth, going up 5-2 in the first seven points. Henderson gradually pulled back even at 8-8 with a 6-3 spurt and the two teams battled over the next eight points. With things tied up 12-12, the Reddies made their move, going on a 7-3 run, fueled by three kills from Bolf, to open up a 19-15 advantage and push the Lady Patriots to the brink. DBU had one last gasp, taking the next three points to cut the lead to 19-18, but they would come no further, as Henderson finished the set on a 6-0 run to win it 25-18 and take the match, 3-1. Bolf had seven kills in the final set for the Reddies, while Zuzana Ondruskova chipped in five kills of her own.

Game Notes: For the second-straight game, both setters had big performances, as Sariah Boney had 25 assists and Danika Daum finished with 19. Williams and Adrianna Hartmann both had nine kills for the Reddies, while Jackson had eight and tacked on 10 digs. Skelton led HSU with 23 digs, but she had help, as four other Reddies, Jackson, Boney, Bolf and Gigi Garramone, registered double-digit digs in the match. Greene led the team in total blocks with eight. As a team, Henderson outscored DBU 83-60 and had 60 kills; 20 more than the Lady Patriots. The win moves the Reddies to 4-2 on the year.

Up Next: Henderson plays again this afternoon in the Tiger Invitational and will face Cameron at 3 p.m.
