Tappin, Jones Lead Reddies Past Arkansas Tech 106-96

Henderson State had all five starters score in double-figures as the Reddies ended a five-game Great American Conference losing streak in beating Arkansas Tech 106-96, Thursday at the Duke Wells Center in Arkadelphia.

The Reddies built an early 9-point advantage early in the first half posting a 19-10 lead following six points by Nairn and 3-point field goals by Jones and Dailey.

Averaging nearly 13 three-point field goals per game, Arkansas Tech fought back and took a brief lead with the help of Mason Cline's three long-range field goals  putting the Wonder Boys on top 35-34 with 6:19 left in the half.

Tappin, who was held scoreless for the first 13 minutes, hit three straight 3-pointers to help the Reddies take a 46-38 lead with just under three minutes left in the half.

Again ATU would use the long ball to cut into the Reddie lead with Harris Brown, Montrell Williams and Freddy Lee all connecting from beyond the arc to cut the deficit to 53-51 at the break.

Arkansas Tech, 10-3 overall and 4-3 in the GAC, built a six point advantage at the 12 minute mark, but the Reddies got key buckets by Jones and Franklin which put Henderson back on top 74-73.

Henderson, 7-6 and 2-5 in the GAC, would never trail again as Jones, Tappin and Parker combined for 25 points the rest of the way with the Reddies knocking down 13-of-15 free throws down the stretch.

The Reddies finished the game shooting 49 percent from the field, converting on 38-of-77 attempts including 9-of-23 from beyond the arc.

Arkansas Tech hit on 37-of-85 from the field for 44 percent. The Wonder Boys knocked down 17-of-45 3-point field goals in the contest.
