Reddies Roll To 94-67 Win over Southwestern Oklahoma

Henderson State recorded it second straight Great American Conference win as the Reddies cruised to a 94-67 win over Southwestern Oklahoma, Thursday at the Duke Wells Center in Arkadelphia.

Five Reddies scored double-figures led by Kaylon Tappin's 21 points with Josh Jones having 17 along with 10 rebounds.

Chris Parker scored 15 points along with three assists, with DJ Franklin scoring 11 and Raekwon Rogers having 10 while falling just short of a double-double with 9 rebounds

The Reddies, 10-8 overall and 5-7 in the GAC, started the game "red hot" jumping out to a 31-12 lead in the opening 10 minutes to set the tone for the night. Henderson hit 12 of its first 17 shots from the field including 7-of-9 from beyond the 3-point arc.

Jones and Parker sparked the Reddies during the run scoring 8 points each while the Henderson defense dominated the boards outrebounding SWOSU 13 to 2 with the Bulldogs managing just 5-of-15 from the floor.

Tappin then took over offensively scoring 14 points in the opening half while Franklin scored 9 points as the Reddies built a 45-22 lead at the break.

Henderson's defense was superb as SWOSU was held without a field goal in the final five minutes of the half.

Southwestern Oklahoma, 3-15 and 1-11 in the GAC, had a better half and matched the Reddies, but Henderson dominated the boards to keep the Bulldogs from making in big charge.

Brad Nairn was a monster on the glass pulling down a game-high 12 rebounds despite scoring just 3 points.

Matt Panaggio came off the bench to score 9 points, with Tanner Hamilton having 7 points and 6 rebounds.

The Reddies finished the game shooting 53 percent from the field hitting on 35-of-66 attempts including 10-of-26 from 3-point range.

Southwestern Oklahoma was limited to 38 percent shooting from the floor converting on 25-of-66 shots.

Henderson will next play host to Northwestern Oklahoma on Saturday with tipoff set for 3 p.m.

Saturday's game will be the annual "Coaches vs. Cancer" game. This season, the Reddies have teamed up with the American Cancer Society by participating in the "Coaches vs. Cancer 3-Point Challenge."
