ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — The Red Wave did not disappoint in its first dual meet of the season on Friday evening, as both the men's and women's teams defeated rival Ouachita Baptist at the Wells Natatorium. The women fought past the Tigersharks 110-95, while the men won soundly, 129-73.
On the men's side, the Red Wave were in control all night and took all but two events in the meet to run away with the win.
Stephen Jones led the way by taking first place in two events for Henderson: the 200 yard individual medley (1:55.34) and the 100 yard backstroke (52.08). Also securing wins on the night for HSU were
Ben East in the 1000 yard free (10:23.46),
Oscar Patten in the 200 yard free (1:46.12),
Caleb Murders in the 50 yard free (21.04),
Tom Nguyen in the 100 yard butterfly (52.81),
Jason Seiner in the 100 yard free (48.87) and
Shawn Brown in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:02.51).
The Red Wave men's relay team of Jones, Nguyen,
Zach Hansen and

The competition for the women was much closer throughout the evening. The Red Wave won the opening event of the meet, the 200 yard medley relay (1:51.68), and
Jordan Adkins took first in the 200 yard free (1:59.49), but OBU won six of the first eight races to seemingly take control.
Henderson got a flurry of points late in the meet, however.
Lindsey Lucas (5:27.34) and
Emma Sewell (5:43.36) took first and third, respectively, in the 500 yard free,
Elza Kachliishvili (1:09.55) and
Caroline Beattie (1:10.55) took first and third, respectively, in the 100 yard backstroke, and the Red Wave relay teams claimed first (1:40.95) and second (1:45.19) in the meet's final event, the 200 yard free relay. Those results alone provided the women's team with 40 points and helped them secure the dual meet victory.
The Red Wave's next meet is on Friday, Nov. 2, when both squads face off with Delta State at 4 p.m. in the Wells Natatorium.
