Henderson State put together a four-run fourth-inning to beat St. Mary's 6-2, at the Houston Winter Invitational on Saturday at Minute Maid Park.
With the game scoreless after three innings of play,
Jackson Martin led off the fourth-inning with a single to left field, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch.
Caleb Carr received a one-out walk with
Brentten Schwaab then laying down a sacrifice bunt which was mishandled scoring Martin for the first run of the game.
Brandon Pollock would score two runs when he doubled to center field while
Zack Gray plated the fourth run of the inning when he singled up the middle to give Henderson a 4-0 advantage.
St. Mary's scored a run in the fifth, but the Reddies responded with two runs in the eighth-inning.
Joseph Shepherd started things with a triple to center field with Martin reaching on a walk. Shepherd scored when
Nolan Ryan hit a sacrifice fly to right field.
Henderson, 1-1 on the year, proceeded to load the bases with Martin later scoring when
Joe Myers walked to make the score 6-1.
Daniel Sprinkle picked up the win on the mound going six innings while striking out six batters and giving up one run on four hits.
Kris Priddy pitched two innings allowing one run on one hit, while
Taylor Langston retired the side in the ninth-inning.
Henderson totaled five hits in the contest with Pollock having a two-run double and Shepherd having a triple to lead the Reddies. Martin reached base all five times having a single and receiving four walks.
The Reddies have a quick turnaround as they will face Texas A&M-Kingsville on Sunday at 10 a.m. to finish the three-day event.
