Henderson State set a school record for conference wins as the Reddies beat Ouachita Baptist 6-0, Friday at Clyde Berry Field.
The Reddies recorded their 21
st conference victory, the most in school history as Henderson improved to 21-10 in the GAC and 29-16 overall.
Henderson struck first in the bottom of third as the Reddies got one out singles by
Nolan Ryan and
Zack Gray. With two outs
Brandon Pollock reached base for the 29
th straight game as he delivered a single to right field to bring home Ryan and put the Reddies on top 1-0.
The Reddies again struck with two outs in bottom half of the fourth-inning scoring three runs on four hits.
Joe Myers began the inning when he reached on an infield single to third base and scored two batters later as
Caleb Carr laced a two out single to left-center field to score Myers.
Ryan traded places with Carr when he roped a double to right-center field to score Carr. Gray then added the final run of the inning with a base hit up the middle to score Ryan and extend the Reddie lead to 4-0.
In the top half of the fifth-inning, Henderson starting pitcher
Bryant Haralson became the third hurler in school history to record 200 career strikeouts when Preston Speers went down swinging for Haralson's sixth victim of the game.
Henderson added another run in the fifth-inning as Pollock led off the inning with his second single of the game and advance home on a pair of wild pitches by John Franklin Matros.
The Reddies continued their offensive production in the sixth-inning as Ryan collected his third hit of the game with a single to left field. Gray continued to be perfect at the plate with his fourth hit clubbing a double down the leftfield line to move Ryan to third. Ryan scored on a deep sacrifice fly by
Dylan McCain to increase Henderson's lead to 6-0.
The Reddies totaled 13 hits in the game with Gray going 4-for-5 at the plate and Ryan 3-for-5 to lead the offense. Myers and Pollock added two hits each.
Haralson went the distance striking out 10 while allowing just three hits to improve to 9-2 on the season.
The two teams will finish the series with a double-header on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m. at Clyde Berry Field.
