Brentten Schwaab belted out three hits, while
Bryant Haralson pitched a complete game to lead Henderson State to a 4-3 win over No. 25 Southern Arkansas, Saturday at Clyde Berry Field in Arkadelphia.
Schwaab collected three of Henderson's 12 hits including belting two doubles, while Haralson struck out six batters, surrendering just five hits to improve to 6-2 on the season.
Southern Arkansas, 23-10 overall and 16-6 in the Great American Conference, took a 2-0 lead in the third-inning as Zach Muldoon clubbed a two-run homer to centerfield.
The Reddies, 22-12 and 16-6, got on the board in the fifth-inning as
Joe Myers reached on a one-out single and advanced to third when
Zack Gray singled to right field to put runners on the corners. Myers scored on a ground out by Schwaab to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Henderson struck again with two outs in the sixth as
Nolan Ryan reached on a SAU error to begin the inning. Mulerider pitcher Hunter Vasquez retired the next two batters before
Caleb Carr singled to move Ryan to third base.
Myers tied the game when he laced a single to right field to score Ryan. Gray then came to the plate and gave Henderson the lead when he smashed a double to right field to score Carr. Myers attempted to score from first on the play but was gunned down at the plate to end the inning.
Henderson added a run in the seventh as Schwaab led off the frame with a double and later scored on a Ryan sacrifice fly to give the Reddies a 4-2 advantage.
SAU added an unearned run in the eighth-inning but that was all the Muleriders could manage as Haralson retired the side in the ninth, including finishing the game striking out James Trevanion.
Henderson had hits in each of the first seven innings off of Vasquez who fell to 5-2 on the season.
Aside from Schwaab's big day, Myers, Gray and Ryan all had two hits to power the Henderson offense.
The two teams will play a double-header on Sunday with the first pitch set for 2 p.m. at Clyde Berry Field.
