Henderson Cruises to 3-0 Win Over SNU

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State used a balanced offensive attack and a dominating presence at the net to cruise past Southern Nazarene on Saturday afternoon 3-0 (25-16, 26-24, 25-10). The win moves the Reddies to 17-3 on the season and 6-1 in the Great American Conference.

The Reddies finished with a .306 attacking percentage and had 10 blocks to just one for the Crimson Storm. Zuzana Ondruskova had a double-double with 12 digs and 10 kills, while Adrianna Hartman added 10 kills and five blocks. Setters Abby Blackburn and Taylor Scalzi combined for 37 assists.

Henderson's next match is on Friday, Oct. 5, when it travels to Ada, Oklahoma, to face East Central at 6 p.m.

SET ONE
The first set was tight early, but with the score knotted at 6-6, Henderson put together a 4-0 spurt to grab a 10-6 advantage. The Reddies maintained their four-point lead over the next several minutes, but with the score 18-14 in Henderson's favor, HSU found its stride and got kills from Hartmann, Ondruskova, and Scalzi to jump-start a 5-0 run, which put it ahead 23-14. SNU had no answer to the late swing of momentum and kills from Alex Tyler and Ondruskova gave Henderson a 25-16 win.

SET TWO
The late moments of the second frame proved to be crucial to the match. With Henderson up 19-16 in what had been a tightly contested set, SNU put together a 6-1 run to suddenly seize a 22-20 lead. The Reddies twice cut the deficit down to one point, but the Crimson Storm answered and had set point at 24-22. Needing a response, the Reddies got one, as HSU came up with a 4-0 run, sparked by two kills from Tyasia McGruder and a kill from Ondruskova, to surge back and steal a 26-24 win.

SET THREE
After dropping the second set in heartbreaking fashion, Henderson's momentum was too much for SNU in the third. With the score tied at 6-6, the Reddies put together the most dominant stretch of play in the match and closed on a 19-4 run to capture a 25-10 win and claim the match 3-0.
