CLEVELAND, Miss. — The Henderson State Red Wave returned to action after a nearly two month-long hiatus on Friday afternoon but were upended in both the men's and women's meets by host Delta State.
The Statesmen won the men's dual competition 159-62 while the Lady Statesmen got past the Red Wave 164-68 on what was Senior Day for DSU.
On the women's side, Henderson's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Savannah Martin, Ardyn Wilson, Eleonora Unanova and Jordan Adkins took first place with a time of 1:45.04, while the team of Ceci Magnani, Amy Brandenburg, Emma Sewell and Lara Kockaya finished second in 1:48.62 to help HSU sweep all 15 points in the event.Â
Elam Fulton took home two second place finishes in the 100-yard freestyle (55.18) and the 50-yard freestyle (25.07) to pick up eight total points, while Unanova finished second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:21.09) and fifth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.47) to tally six.
The men were led by Stephen Jones, who brought in eight points with second place finishes in both the 200-yard IM (1:53.24) and the 100-yard fly (54.77). Other second place finishers for the Red Wave included Tom Nguyen, who took the silver in the 50-yard freestyle (22.11), Caleb Murders, who got four points in the 100-yard freestyle (48.12), and Oscar Patten, who grabbed second in the 500-yard freestyle (4:54.89).
The Red Wave will compete again on Saturday when both teams swim against Rhodes College at 12 p.m. in Memphis, Tennessee.
