SET ONE
The Lady Bisons jumped on HSU early as a 5-1 spurt set the tempo for Harding. Henderson settled in and got kills from Hartmann, Sabrina Show, and Bolf to cut Harding's lead to one, 8-7, but the Lady Bisons were quick to equal their largest lead and rebuild a 12-8 advantage. The Reddies trimmed the lead to 13-11, but a dominant 9-2 run from Harding gave the Lady Bisons a comfortable 22-13 cushion. Henderson State got no closer than six as Harding cruised to a 1-0 lead with a 25-18 win.Â
SET TWO
The Duke Wells Center saw a more focused HSU team break the huddle for the second set, as a Tyasia McGruder kill gave the Reddies their first lead of the night, 2-1. With Henderson maintaining their one-point lead, 11-10, back-to-back kills from Bolf appeared to give HSU some slight breathing room, but Harding was quick to counter by taking four of the next five points to tie the set, 14-14. Determined to stay on the front foot, Bolf put HSU back into the lead 15-14 which jumpstarted an 8-4 run and gave the Reddies their largest lead of the night, 22-18. Harding clawed within one, 22-21, but the Reddies ripped off three-straight points to take the set and tie the match 25-21.Â
SET THREE
Similarly to the opening frame, Henderson stumbled to a slow start in the third set, as Harding burst to an early 6-2 lead. Two-straight kills by Bolf helped HSU climb within one, 6-5, but Harding would not allow HSU to tie or take the lead as the score moved to 12-11. With the momentum up for grabs, the Lady Bisons went on a 9-1 run to take a commanding 21-12 advantage before cruising to a 2-1 lead, 25-18.Â
SET FOUR
Despite allowing Harding to take three of the first four points of the fourth set on the way to a 3-1 advantage, Henderson State responded with its most impressive spurt of the night. Boosted by three straight HU errors, the Reddies ripped off a 15-5 run on the way to a 16-8 advantage. Following a Harding timeout, the Lady Bisons responded with a 5-0 run of their own to pull within three, 16-13. HSU appeared to retake control with a 3-0 spurt to go in front 19-13, but Harding would not be denied, as HU tied the set 22-22 after a 9-3 run. With the match up for grabs, the Reddies turned to the freshman Tuyo, who responded with a powerful attack that sent HSU in front 23-22. It was a lead the Reddies would not relinquish, as HSU tied the match with a 25-23 victory.Â
SET FIVE
Harding had the advantage in the shortened fifth set, as it jumped out to a 5-2 lead. However, just as they had done so many times before, the Reddies fought back with a 6-2 run that sent them in front for the first time in the final frame, 8-7. After Harding moved back in front 11-10, the Reddies got back-to-back kills from Tuyo and McGruder, followed by an ace from Scalzi, to surge in front 13-11. Harding fought back to the tie the set 14-14, but a kill from Bolf gave HSU its second match point of the night, leading 15-14. With the Duke Wells Center on its feet, McGruder delivered her most memorable kill of the season as the Reddies prevailed, 16-14. Â
