ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State open Great American Conference play on Thursday evening when it welcomes Southern Arkansas to the Duke Wells Center for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
REDDIES REPORT
- The Reddies torched Texas College 129-88 on Monday night at home to earn their third win of the season. The 129 points was a GAC record by any school and was the most scored by a Henderson team since Jan. 6, 2000 when HSU poured in a program-record 135 against Arkansas Baptist.Â
- HSU's offense was unstoppable against the Steers, as the Reddies shot 62% from the floor in the win, which included a mark of 68.2% (27-for-40) in the first half. Henderson also hit a school-record 15 3-pointers on the night, two more than the previous record of 13 set last season against SWOSU.
- Chris Parker has led Henderson in scoring in all four games so far this season. Parker is averaging 18 points per game and is shooting an incredible 54.2% from 3-point range this year (13-of-24). Rel Johnson is the only other Reddie averaging double figures thus far (12.3 points per game).
- Henderson has proved to be a very deep team through four games and boasts 10 players who average 12 or more minutes per game. The Reddies also have 11 players who are are averaging four or more points per game.
- With four games behind them, the Reddies are averaging 85 points per game as a team and allowing 72.5 to their opponents. HSU has been excellent at forcing turnovers so far and has a current turnover margin of +5.8. Opponents are turning the ball over 20.3 times per game when facing Henderson.
- The Reddies and Southern Arkansas met in the conference opener for both teams last season in Magnolia, Arkansas with SAU getting the better of Henderson 94-71. HSU returned the favor later in the year, however, as it defeated the Muleriders 82-63 in the second regular season matchup and 74-62 in the first round of the GAC Tournament in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN ARKANSAS
- Southern Arkansas enters Thursday night's contest 1-2 on the season. SAU played in the GAC/MIAA Challenge along with HSU to begin the year and fell to both Newman and Rogers State. The Muleriders got their first victory last Wednesday against Union 72-63.
- Both guard Aaron Lucas and forward Devante Brooks average 13.3 points per game for SAU, while Brooks also leads the team with an average of 8.7 rebounds per game.
- As a team, the Muleriders average 68.7 points per game and allow 71 to their opponents. SAU is very strong on the glass, where it out-rebounds its competition by seven boards per game.
