Reddie Men Stung by Slow Start in Loss to RSU

LANCASTER, Texas — Henderson State had four players score in double figures but could not overcome a rough start and fell to Rogers State 82-70 on Saturday.

The Reddies put themselves in a hole from the very beginning at the neutral site matchup in Texas, as RSU jumped out to a huge 19-0 lead in the first five minutes of play.

Henderson, who at one point trailed 28-6, did its best to cut into the deficit before the break and used a 16-4 run to trim the lead down to 32-22, but the Hillcats closed the half on a 10-4 spurt to carry a 41-25 advantage into the locker room.

Despite a tough first 20 minutes, the Reddies played well in the second half and cut the lead to 70-62 with just over two minutes remaining, but it was too little, too late for HSU, as RSU held on to win it 82-70 and improve to 2-0 on the weekend.

Chris Parker led the Reddies in scoring for the second-straight day with 18 points, while Raekwon Rogers had 16, Quawn Marshall turned in 13 and Rel Johnson scored 11.

HSU shot just 37.1% from the floor compared to the Hillcats' 47.8%. Rogers State was red-hot from 3-point range and hit on 13-of-23 attempts, while the Reddies shot 10.5% from beyond the arc and finished the game 2-of-19 from three.

The Reddies (1-1) return to action on Friday, Nov. 15, when they host Mississippi College at 7:30 p.m. in the Duke Wells Center.
