SEARCY, Ark. — Four different Reddies scored in double figures on Saturday night and Henderson State used a big run early in the second half to pull away from Harding and defeat the Bisons 73-56 at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.
Joshua Jones finished with a season-high 17 points on 7-for-14 shooting, while Rel Johnson had 12, Chris Parker had 11, and Anthony Lupardus chipped in 10 off of the bench. The win is HSU's 11th Great American Conference win of the season, which ties the program high for a single year.Â
Harding opened the game on a 6-0 run on its home floor but a quick 17-4 response from the Reddies helped them go back in front and control the first half the rest of the way to carry a 38-29 advantage into the break.
Henderson (16-8, 11-7) strengthened its grip on the game at the start of the second half, as the Reddies out-scored the Bisons 22-3 in the first eight minutes of the period to seize a commanding 60-32 lead with 11:20 left. The run featured an 18-0 stretch for HSU and five points each from Jones, Lupardus, and Chris Owens.
The Bisons refused to go away and put together a 20-5 run of their own to trim the deficit to 65-52 at the 6:37 mark, but they would come no closer, as Henderson got 3-pointers down the stretch from Jones and Parker to keep Harding at bay and cruise to the road victory.
The Reddies were 10-for-21 from behind the 3-point line in the game and outscored the Bisons 29-9 in points off of turnovers on the night.
HSU's next game comes on Thursday, Feb. 21, when the Reddies travel to Weatherford, Oklahoma, to take on Southwestern Oklahoma State at 7:30 p.m.
