ARKADELPHIA, Ark –
Hailey Estes joined the 1,000 point club and the Reddies defense dominated as Henderson State defeated Southeastern Oklahoma State 64-38 at the Duke Wells Center.
Entering the game, the Conway native needed 21 points to join teammate
Pink Jones with 1,000 points in a career. Estes finished with 23 behind 7-for-12 shooting from the perimeter and also snagged 10 rebounds. She is the 14th player in Henderson State Women's Basketball history to score 1,000 points.
The Reddies defense was extremely effective all night and held SOSU to single digit scoring in three of four quarters. The Savage Storm's 38 points was the lowest point total Henderson has allowed this season.
Henderson State (18-9, 13-8) will honor four seniors on Saturday when the Reddies host East Central on Senior Day with tip-off scheduled for 1 p.m.
Â
1st Quarter
The Reddies got off to a torrid start as back-to-back 3-pointers from
Blu Jones and Estes had Henderson up 8-0 in the blink of an eye. After SOSU got on the board, Henderson ripped off a 7-0 run behind jumpers from
Pink Jones and
Lani Snowden and took a 17-7 lead after one period.    Â
Â
2nd Quarter
After both teams traded runs to begin the quarter, the Reddies re-took control. Estes hit her fourth and fifth 3-pointers of the game as the Reddies ended the half on a 14-2 run to carry a 32-16 lead into the break.
Â
3rd Quarter
Estes began the second half like she ended the first, with another 3-pointer, giving her 18 points on the night and three away from 1,000. After six-straight from the Savage Storm, Snowden got the Reddies back on track with her first 3-pointer. On the very next possession, HSU completed a great passing sequence as
Pink Jones found Estes all alone at the top of the key. Estes drilled the 3-point shot, giving her 1,000 career points in style. Henderson led 48-30 heading into the final frame.
Â
4th Quarter
Southeastern hit back-to-back 3-pointers to cut the Reddies' lead to 12 early in the fourth quarter, but
Lexis Weber answered for HSU with a run-stopping three-point-play to push Henderson's advantage back to 15. Jumpers from Snowden and Estes pushed the lead out to 20 as the Reddies cruised to victory, 64-38.
