ARKADELPHIA, Ark. –
Pink Jones scored 20 points and
Maci Mains and
Lexis Weber came off the bench to combine for 20 of their own, as Henderson State cruised past Southern Arkansas, 70-49 on Thursday evening.
The Reddies shot 53.9 percent from the floor in the game, while holding the Lady Muleriders to just 34.6 percent shooting, which included a mark of 18.2 percent from the 3-point line.
Hailey Estes tied a home-game season high with 17 and finished 5-for-9 from behind the arc.
Henderson (15-6, 10-5) is back in action on Saturday, when HSU heads to Monticello, Arkansas, to take on UAM at 2 p.m.
Â
1st Quarter
Pink Jones attacked early and often for the Reddies, scoring HSU's first bucket and assisting on a 3-pointer from Estes to give the Reddies a 5-2 lead less than three minutes into the contest. After both teams traded points,
Pink Jones went on a 5-0 run by herself, splashing a 3-pointer from the left corner before a short jumper gave HSU its largest lead to that point, 12-4. Pink finished the quarter with 10 points and the Reddies had a 20-8 advantage after the first frame.
Â
2nd Quarter
The Reddies got off to a slow start in the second quarter, as SAU trimmed Henderson's lead down to single digits, 20-12. After HSU's guards did most of the scoring in the first, the Reddies front court players took over as the first half wound down. Weber and
Karrington Whaley scored the next 10 points for the Reddies, but SAU was able to keep pace, as the Reddies led just 33-23 at the break.
Â
3rd Quarter
Henderson State took complete control to begin the second half and forced the Lady Muleriders into a quick timeout after three straight baskets from Estes,
Pink Jones and
Blu Jones extended the lead out to 41-26. Despite the stoppage, SAU was unable to stem the tide, as the Reddies used an 18-10 run, highlighted by two 3-pointers from Estes, to blow the game open and take a 59-33 advantage into the final quarter.
Â
4th Quarter
Mains provided the Henderson highlights of the fourth quarter and scored seven points in a row for the Reddies as they opened their largest lead of the game, 69-35. SAU closed the gap down the stretch, but never threatened, as the Reddies eased to a 70-49 victory.
