Henderson Drops Two on Final Day of UAH Charger Chillout

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – After splitting the first two games of the UAH Charger Chillout, the Reddies could not get the bats going on Saturday as HSU scored just three runs over two games and dropped contests to Mississippi College and McKendree University.

Freshmen Abbie Moore and Ashlyn Taylor were two bright spots, as they combined to go 6-for-10 on the day.

The Reddies will play their third and final invitational tournament of the non-conference slate next weekend when they take part in the Alvy Early Memorial Classic in Bentonville, Arkansas. HSU opens the weekend on Friday, Feb. 15, when it faces off against Fort Hays State at 9 a.m. and Missouri Southern at 11 a.m.

Game One: Mississippi College 8, Henderson State 1
Henderson out-hit Mississippi College in the first game on Saturday, but could not convert those hits into runs, as the Lady Choctaws defeated the Reddies 8-1.

After MC took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Reddies answered in the second, when Taylor singled to bring home Selena Mendoza and tie the game 1-1.

It was HSU's last run of the game, as the Lady Choctaws scored seven unanswered runs - four of which came in the third inning - to pull away for the win.

The Reddies had eight hits to just seven for MC, but none were for extra bases and Henderson had just one runner in scoring position after the second inning.

Madie Green, Mendoza, and Taylor each had two hits in the game to lead HSU at the plate.

Game Two: McKendree 11, Henderson State 2
The Reddies again scored first in the second game of the day but had no answer for the response from McKendree, who used 11-straight runs to roll past Henderson in the final contest of the weekend for HSU.

Moore put the Reddies on the board in the bottom of the first inning, driving home Marcela Lopez with a single up the middle after Lopez singled and stole second.

HSU was unable to keep the Bearcats at bay, however, as McKendree took a 2-1 lead in the top of the second inning, before padding their advantage with three runs in the third and six runs in the fourth.

After the Reddies put two runners on in the bottom of the fourth, Taylor knocked in Christianna Camp to make the score 11-2, but that would be as close as Henderson would come, as the Reddies fell by that score.
