BETHANY, Okla. — Henderson State scored first in both contests on Saturday, but little went right after that in either game, as Southern Nazarene ran away to sweep the doubleheader and win the series.
The Reddies (12-12, 6-6) return to action this weekend, when they host Northwestern Oklahoma State in doubleheaders at 2 p.m. Friday and 12 p.m. Saturday.Â
Game Three: Southern Nazarene 6, Henderson State 1
After striking first on an RBI double from Kailey Reese, the Reddies allowed six unanswered runs and dropped the first game on Saturday.
The Crimson Storm took advantage of five HSU errors in the game and plated runs in the first, second, and fourth, then tacked on three in the fifth, to pull away for the win. Three of SNU's six runs were unearned.
The Reddies out-hit SNU 9-7 but stranded nine base-runners in the loss. Alyssa Dixon, Marcela Lopez, Abbie Moore, and Reese all had two hits to lead Henderson.
Game Four: Southern Nazarene 14, Henderson State 2
SNU swung hot bats from the get-go in game two of the doubleheader, and racked up 12 hits to sweep the day with a win in five innings.
Much like in the firs contest, it was Reese who got the Reddies on the board first when she got a ground out RBI which plated Dixon from third to put HSU in front 1-0.
After the Crimson Storm scored two in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-1 lead, things came apart for Henderson in the second. SNU used five hits — three of which went for extra bases — to score seven runs in the frame and take a commanding 9-2 advantage.
HSU got one back in the third on Reese's second RBI of the game and third of the doubleheader, but the Crimson Storm tacked on another in the bottom half and three more in the fourth to pull away and enact the run-rule after five.
The Reddies were held to just three hits in the game, two of which came from Ashlyn Taylor. Reese was responsible for all three of Henderson's RBIs in the doubleheader.Â
