UAM Sweeps Henderson in Monday Doubleheader

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – After winning twice on Sunday, Henderson State split its four game series with Arkansas-Monticello as HSU fell in both games of Monday's doubleheader by scores of 8-2 and 2-1.

Becca Almond went six solid innings for the Reddies in game two, but Henderson did not provide the sophomore pitcher with the run support she needed and only tallied two hits in the final game of the series. Almond has now made four quality starts in a row for HSU and has only given up seven earned runs in her last 29 innings.

Madie Green had a solid day at the plate for the Reddies, finishing a combined 3-for-6 with a home run, a double, and two RBIs.

The Reddies (23-25, 17-19), will play their final home series and celebrate senior weekend when Harding visits for two doubleheaders next Friday at 4 p.m. and next Saturday at 12 p.m.

Game One: Arkansas-Monticello 8, Henderson State 2
HSU scored the game's first run in the third inning after Marcela Lopez singled down the left field line and advanced herself into scoring position by stealing second base. With two outs, Green roped a single to centerfield, scoring her fellow outfielder and giving the Reddies a 1-0 lead.

Green would later steal second and advance to third on a wild pitch but she was left stranded and the contest remained a one run affair.

Unfortunately the Reddies lead did not last long, and UAM homered to tie the game 1-1 in the bottom of the third. Tied 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth, the Blossoms blew the game open when UAM came up with back-to-back-to-back hits, all with two outs, to take a commanding 6-1 advantage. UAM would add two more in the fifth and hold an 8-1 lead heading into the sixth.

The Reddies were able to pull one back in the top half of the sixth inning when Kailey Reese drove home Green with an RBI groundout, but it wasn't enough, as Arkansas-Monticello won 8-2.

Game Two: Arkansas-Monticello 2, Henderson State 1
UAM wasted no time jumping out to an early lead in the second half of Monday's doubleheader. After the Reddies were retired in order in the first, the Blossoms took a quick 1-0 lead with a single and a double to start the bottom of the first. Although Almond was able to settle down and limit the damage, UAM added one more, and HSU was quickly behind, 2-0.

Following the first, both pitchers settled in and held the opposing lineup scoreless in the second, third, fourth, and fifth innings. Despite only having one hit through five innings, Green pulled the Reddies within one run with a solo bomb to left field which made the score 2-1. The long ball was Green's team-leading sixth home run of the season and 16th of her career.

The Reddies put a runner on with one out in the seventh, but UAM got back-to-back strikeouts and HSU fell for the second time, 2-1.
