Baseball Falls to Mississippi College 10-7

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State got out to an early lead on Tuesday night at home, but Mississippi College scored eight unanswered runs in the third, fourth and fifth, and defeated the Reddies 10-7 in the midweek clash at Clyde Berry Field.

An RBI single from Caleb Carr in the opening frame put the Reddies (19-17) in front quickly, and after MC tied things up in the second, HSU struck again, courtesy of a two RBI shot from Brandon Pollock, to take a 3-1 advantage.

The game's momentum swung back the other way, however, over the next three innings, as the Choctaws scored four in third, and two in both the fourth and fifth, to surge to a 9-3 lead on the road.

Greyson Stevens got one back for HSU in the sixth with an RBI single, but MC answered with another run of its own in the seventh to keep the six-run cushion intact.

Danny Mitchell Jr. drove in one more for Henderson in the seventh with a ground out RBI, but the Reddies struggled to find a big inning and came to the plate in the bottom of the ninth needing five runs to stay alive.

Down to its final three outs, HSU made things interesting with back-to-back RBIs from Caleb Carr and Josh Aguilar, but the Reddies would come no closer, as the Choctaws traded runs for outs and escaped with the win.

Joseph Shepherd, Stevens, and Carr each had two hits in the game for Henderson. Carr and Pollock led the way with two RBIs apiece. Six errors hurt the Reddies in the loss, as they accounted for three unearned MC runs.

HSU returns to action this weekend when it hosts Arkansas-Monticello in its final Great American Conference home series of the season at Clyde Berry Field. The Reddies and Weevils open the three-game set with a single game at 6 p.m. Friday night and will face-off in a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.
