Red Wave Fall to Delta State in 2020 Opener

FULL MEET RESULTS: MEN | WOMEN

CLEVELAND, Miss. — Henderson State's men's and women's swim teams competed in their first meets of the new year on Friday afternoon but fell in both competitions to NSISC power Delta State.

The women, who fell 166-64, got a big day from Elam Fulton who provided two wins in the 50-yard freestyle (24.28) and 100-yard freestyle (53.22). The two first-place finishes netted Fulton 18 points for the Red Wave. 

Elza Kachliishvili added seven points for HSU with second-place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke and as a leg of the 200-yard medley relay.

On the men's side, the Red Wave picked up four wins on the day despite falling 148-83. Tim Holt took first in the 50-yard freestyle (21.81), while Stephen Jones touched the wall first in the 100-yard fly (49.88) and Till Steyer won the 500-yard freestyle (4:44.87). 

Holt and Jones helped HSU earn its final victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:26.15) as legs alongside Jason Seiner and Ryan Brown. Steyer led the Red Wave with 15 points in the meet, while Jones and Holt each had 13.

The Red Wave have a quick turnaround and will compete again tomorrow at home when they host the HSU Invitational inside the Wells Natatorium at 1 p.m.
